5/29/12 ASHLAND, Ohio -- The Ashland Area Chorus, a non-auditioned mixed choir of about 60 singers, has announced its 2012 summer session. The rehearsal schedule begins on Monday, June 4, from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Ashland University in Room 242 of the Center for the Arts (formerly the Arts and Humanities building) and continues for a total of four weeks on Monday nights. The Chorus will perform a program of light, popular, and patriotic tunes with the Ashland Symphony Orchestra for their concert at the Myers Memorial Band Shell on Sunday, July 1.
The Chorus is open to the entire Ashland community and beyond. Singers have come from Richland, Medina, Wayne, Holmes, and Crawford counties as well. Previous choral experience is helpful and encouraged. While there are no strict age limits, singers under 18 must be approved by the director. There is no cost to the singer.
The AAC has performed in concerts at Ashland University, with the Ashland Symphony Orchestra, and for the Ohio Choral Directors Association. Recent appearances have included subscription concerts with the ASO including Orff’s Carmina Burana, Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, Mendelssohn’s Elijah and the Verdi Requiem and the summer pops concert in the park.
Current members should encourage their talented friends and neighbors to attend the first rehearsal and make a vocal contribution to this fine musical organization.
