Ashland Businessmen Establish Endowed Scholarship at Ashland University

7/20/18 ASHLAND, Ohio – Nate Shultz and Rob Wash, co-owners of Spreng-Smith Insurance Agency in Ashland, have endowed a scholarship that will be presented annually to a student or students attending Ashland University from either Ashland County or Lorain County.

The Nate Shultz and Rob Wash Family Endowed Scholarship in Business at Ashland University was established earlier this summer by Shultz and Wash, who became owners of Spreng-Smith Insurance Agency a couple of years ago.

According to the endowed scholarship stipulations, the scholarship is based on academic merit and financial need and preference is given to those students from Ashland County or Lorain County who are entering an academic program in the Dauch College of Business and Economics at AU. The scholarship will be renewed annually provided that the recipient maintains a minimum GPA of 3.0 in pursuit of the degree.

“We recognize the value that Ashland University brings to our community and, as an alumnus, it is an opportunity for me to give back to the school where I received my education,” Shultz said. “With Rob growing up in Lorain County, we decided it would be fitting for us to give scholarships to students from either Lorain County or Ashland County so they can take advantage of this great institution.”

AU President Dr. Carlos Campo said endowed scholarships are important to the success of Ashland University.

“We are so pleased that Nate and Rob have made the decision to provide the funding for an endowed scholarship that will help students be able to attend Ashland University. It is a gift that keeps on giving year after year and will continue to touch students forever,” Campo said.

Ashland University Endowed Scholarships, which begin at $25,000, help to provide deserving students of modest means with an Ashland education, and enrich the Ashland experience by ensuring a diverse student body. Approximately 500 named endowed scholarships have been established since 1980. When a gift is endowed, the initial principal is invested and awards are made from the annual earnings. This provides a level of current support, while providing a reliable source of funds for the future.
