3/24/17 ASHLAND, Ohio – The Greg Stoops Memorial Endowed Scholarship has been established at Ashland University by Greg’s mother, Janet Stoops, and his brother, Rob Stoops. Janet and Rob own and operate Lyn-Way Restaurant in Ashland.
“The entire Stoops family has always had a passion of assisting and helping the entire community of Ashland and I believe this endowed scholarship is a wonderful way to give back to the community,” Rob Stoops said. “This endowment created in my brother’s honor will continue in perpetuity assisting students with their educational endeavors.”
According to the endowed scholarship stipulations, the scholarship recipient(s) will be selected on the basis of academic merit and financial need and first preference will be given to a graduate from Ashland High School or any other Ashland County School District. While preference also will be given to those students majoring in entrepreneurship or hospitality management, this will not be the deciding factor in choosing a recipient.
This scholarship may be renewed annually provided that the recipient(s) is in good standing within the Ashland University community.
AU President Dr. Carlos Campo said endowed scholarships are important to the success of Ashland University. “We are so pleased that Janet and her son, Rob, have made the decision to provide funding for a memorial endowed scholarship that will help students be able to attend Ashland University. It is a gift that keeps on giving year after year and will continue to touch students forever,” Campo said.
Ashland University Endowed Scholarships help to provide deserving students of modest means with an Ashland education, and enrich the Ashland experience by ensuring a diverse student body. Approximately 500 named endowed scholarships have been established since 1980.
When a gift is endowed, the initial principal is invested and awards are made from the annual earnings. This provides a level of current support, while providing a reliable source of funds for the future.
