Ashland Poetry Press to Present Day-Long Poetry Workshop Nov. 18

10/23/17 ASHLAND, Ohio – The Ashland Poetry Press will present a day-long poetry workshop on the campus of Ashland University on Nov. 18. Featured presenters are Columbus-area poet Charlene Fix and Ashland Poetry Press director and editor Deborah Fleming.

The two will present a reading with question-and-answer session and will lead a morning workshop where participants give and receive feedback on each other’s writing. The event also includes an opportunity for sharing poetry in an open-mic event and socializing with other writers in the area.

The schedule for Sat., Nov. 18, is as follows:

  • 9 a.m. Check-In and Coffee/Light Refreshments
  • 10 a.m.- 12 p.m. Workshops - Schar College of Education
  • 12 - 1:30 p.m. Lunch Break
  • 1:30 - 3 p.m. Featured Poets Reading and Q&A
  • 3 - 4 p.m. Social Hour with Snacks
  • 4 - 5 p.m. Participant Open-Mic

Fix is the author of several collections of poetry including Frankenstein’s Flowers, Flowering Bruno, Charlene Fix: Greatest Hits and Mischief. Her work has been published in Poetry, Literary Imagination, Hotel Amerika, The Manhattan Review and other journals. Fix has received the Robert H. Winner Memorial Award and Louis Hammer Memorial Awards from the Poetry Society of America.

Fleming is the director of the Ashland Poetry Press and a professor of English at Ashland University. Her poetry collections include Into A New Country, Migrations and Morning, Winter Solstice. She has also published a novel, Without Leave. She is the recipient of the Vandewater Poetry Award and a fellowship from the National Endowment for the Humanities.
