4/30/15 ASHLAND, Ohio - Ashland Theological Seminary will confer 139 degrees to the members of 2015 graduating class at the commencement ceremony to be held Saturday, May 16, at 10 a.m. in the John C. Myers Convocation Center on the Ashland University campus.
Everett Worthington, Ph.D., professor of psychology at Virginia Commonwealth University, will deliver the ceremony’s commencement address.
Worthington is a licensed clinical psychologist in Virginia and has published more than 25 books and more than 250 articles and scholarly chapters, mostly on forgiveness, marriage and family topics. He frequently discusses forgiveness, marriage and family in media.
His books include “A Just Forgiveness: Responsible Healing without Excusing Injustice,” “Forgiving and Reconciling: Bridges to Wholeness and Hope,” “The Power of Forgiving,” “Handbook of Forgiveness,” “Hope-focused Marriage Counseling” and “Humility: The Quiet Virtue.”
He is current president-elect of the American Psychological Association Division 36 (Psychology of Religion and Spirituality), and a fellow of the American Psychological Society. He won VCU’s top award in recognition of teaching, research and service and earned the VCU’s Award for Excellence in 2009.
Dr. Worthington has been married to his wife, Kirby, for 45 years and they have four children and three grandchildren. He enjoys ballroom dancing and plays tournament tennis. He has a clear goal for his tennis: someday, he wants to be ranked number one in the world in the over-100 category.
The degrees to be conferred at the seminary include Doctor of Ministry, Master of Arts (Biblical Studies), Master of Arts (Historical/Theological Studies), Master of Arts (Religion), Master of Arts in Biblical Studies, Master of Arts in Black Church Studies, Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Master of Arts in Counseling, Master of Arts in Pastoral Counseling and Care, Master of Arts in Practical Theology, Master of Arts in Spiritual Formation, Master of Divinity, Master of Divinity in Chaplaincy, Graduate Diploma in Leadership Coaching, Diploma of Theology (Black Church Studies) and Diploma of Theology (Hispanic Church Studies).
