“The Christian discipline of hospitality welcomes others into our sphere of belonging, as an extension of God's welcome of us into the divine life,” Hawk said. “Join us for reflection on the book of Ruth, one of the most elegant biblical pictures of this core spiritual practice.”
Set within a world of strife and division, Hawk said the book of Ruth presents an alternative vision of hospitality that expresses the essence of God's love.
“The vision focuses on a field outside of Bethlehem, a Moabite immigrant who enters the village's space, and a Judean who draws her into the community's sphere of belonging,” he said. “Our presentation will enter that world and reflect on how it challenges Christian faith and practice in response to the strangers who enter the spaces of our own communities.”
When it comes to Old Testament scholarship and theology, Dr. Hawk is an expert. He also is an excellent communicator, able to make complex issues of theology accessible to those in his classroom. Students find Dr. Hawk to be kind, compassionate and a compelling teacher. Dr. Hawk and his wife, Linda, have two sons, Danny and Andrew.
Ashland Theological Seminary integrates theological education with Christ-centered transformation as it equips men and women for ministry in the church and the world.
