Ashland Seminary Professor to Give Lecture

9/11/15 ASHLAND, Ohio – Dr. John Byron, Ashland Theological Seminary professor of New Testament, will give a lecture titled “From the Scroll to the Book” on Oct. 20 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at High Mill Church in Canton. The lecture, which is free and open to the public, is co-sponsored by Ashland Theological Seminary and High Mill Church.

The Bible is one of the most widely read books in the world. In North America, most homes have at least one copy of the Bible, but many probably have several. Yet, it can be easy to take our possession of the Bible for granted. Most people don’t often appreciate the long and sometimes difficult process that provides people with the Bible that is read today.

In this lecture, Dr. Byron will explain how the Bible that everyone holds in theirs hands today evolved from scrolls and papyri that were written in numerous languages. At the conclusion of the lecture, the audience will be invited to view a selection of ancient Bibles and manuscripts including a fragment of the Dead Sea Scrolls and pages from the Wycliffe, Tyndale and Luther Bibles.

Refreshments will be served following the lecture.

The High Mill Church is located at 1920 Schneider St NE in Canton, Ohio, directly across from Glenoak High School.
