Ashland Seminary Student Named Ohio’s American Legion Chaplain of the Year

1/22/13 ASHLAND, Ohio - Ashland Theological Seminary student Willie Springer of Brunswick has been named Ohio’s American Legion Chaplain of the Year. Springer, who will graduate from Ashland Theological Seminary’s divinity degree program in June, was recognized for his honor at the Jan. 14 Brunswick City Council meeting.

The city recognized Springer, who is chaplain of the Brunswick American Legion Post 234, for his selection as the 2012 American Legion Chaplain of the Year for Ohio.

A native of Cleveland, Springer is a graduate of John Adams High School and 1967-1969 United States Army veteran who served 14 months in Vietnam.

Springer, who is a member of Second Baptist Church in Medina, chaplain at Wade Park Hospital and a chaplain of the Vietnam Association, became a licensed minister in 2012.

Springer said the most fulfilling – and humbling - part of his work is being a member of an honor guard.
