Ashland University A Cappella and Musical Theatre Troupes Join Forces for Concert

3/29/17 ASHLAND, Ohio – Ashland University Departments of Music and Theatre present a double-feature concert showcasing the musical theatre revue troupe Drop of a Hat Players and the contemporary a cappella group Surround Sound. The concert will be held on Sunday, April 9, at 2 p.m. in Hugo Young Theatre in the Center for the Arts. Although the performance is free and open to the public, audience members are encouraged to reserve a free ticket through the Ashland University box office to guarantee a seat.  

The Drop of a Hat Players will take the stage first with their program titled "Identity." Featuring over a dozen songs from various Broadway musicals, selections include solo and ensemble performances of pieces from Disney's The Lion King, Cinderella, Wonderland, Les Miserables, Little Women, La Cage Aux Folles, Kinky Boots and more. 

For Surround Sound's portion of the concert, they will perform tunes made popular by recording artists such as Kelly Clarkson, Justin Bieber, Christina Aguilera and Katy Perry. Several pieces that will be presented are arrangements by one of the group’s founding members and AU alumna Brandy Riha including Budapest and Stitches.

Directed by Ashland University Assistant Professor of Theatre Robert Sean Parker, members of the Drop of a Hat Players are comprised of seniors Andrea Disch (East Liverpool), Ceyanna Stasick (Sullivan) and Deric Dove (Newark), sophomores Drew Berlin (Barberton) and Maya Rickard (Wooster) along with freshman Jacob Ellis (Bellevue). 

Members of the student-led Surround Sound ensemble include University students Madeleine Beck (Brunswick), Gracie Fumic (Avon), Martell Gorsuch (Ashland), Cody Henderson (Bellevue), Audra Leber (Monroeville), Karissa Magnacca (Wadsworth), Jacob Poiner (Wellington), Emily Sycks (Bluffton), Alexander Trotter (Vineyard Haven, Massachusettes) as well as Ashland High School senior Jackson Cleland.
