Ashland University Coburn Gallery Makes Call for Entries: Seeks Photographs for Juried Exhibition

3/29/16 ASHLAND, Ohio – Ashland University’s Coburn Gallery is seeking photographs for the regional juried exhibition of works, titled “Ohio New Photography,” that will run June 26 to July 31, 2016. This exhibition was inspired by a quote -- “You don’t take a photograph, you make it” -- by famous photographer Ansel Adams.

The exhibition is open to all artists residing in the state of Ohio and cash awards will be given to the Best in Show in each of two categories as well as three honorable mentions.

Photographs both traditional and digital will be accepted and all work must be original art conceived and executed solely by the artist within the last two years. The deadline for entries is May 6, 2016, and the exhibition will feature two categories: photographs taken by artists 18 and over, plus a special category for young artists 17 years and under.

Entrants are eligible to submit up to two artworks with a $15 entry fee. There is no fee for artists 17 years and younger. All artwork must be matted and framed properly if accepted. Work previously exhibited at the Coburn Gallery is not eligible. Artists are responsible for shipping costs to and from the gallery. Please address any questions to cpetry@ashland.edu and the prospectus can be found at: www.ashland.edu/coburngallery.

Honey Lazar, a Cleveland photographer, will serve as juror for the exhibition. She studied at The Cleveland Institute of Art and is a lifelong workshop student. Selections of her work are in permanent collections at the Progressive Corporation, University Hospitals and Southwest General Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio. Her photographs have exhibited internationally, most recently in Malaga, Spain.

Lazar works on long-term projects for exhibition and publication. She photographs to immortalize loved ones, landscapes and objects of desire, and has recently published, “Loving Aunt Ruth: Recipes for a Life Well-Lived.” Lazar said she loves everything about photography especially the people she meets.
