4/15/10 ASHLAND, Ohio --The Department of Music at Ashland University presents two end-of-semester performances in the Center for the Arts. Both performances are free and open to the public.
"Variable Winds" a joint performance by the Ashland Area Community Concert Band and the University Concert Band, conducted by Leonard Salvo, will be performed on Sunday, April 25, at 4 p.m., in Hugo Young Theatre.
The program for the Ashland Area Community Concert Band includes Sousa's "Fairest of the Fair," "The Sea Traders" by McBeth, Grundman's "American Folk Rhapsody No. 1," and Benny Goodman's "The King of Swing" (arr. Murtha).
The University Concert Band will perform McBeth's "The Seventh Seal"; Chance's "Incantation and Dance"; "An American Elegy" by Ticheli; "Napoli" by Bellstedt and featuring Dr. Amanda Bekeny, coronet; Arnold's "Four Scottish Dances" (arr. Paynter); and "March 1941" by Williams, who also composed music for many movies including "Star Wars."
The band will also perform the Ashland University Alma Mater "Remember" by Deeter (ed. Salvo).
The Spring Semester Music Honors Recital will be performed on Tuesday, April 27, in the Elizabeth Pastor Recital Hall and will feature select students from the Department of Music in the final Recital Hall performance of the semester.
