5/9/13 ASHLAND, Ohio -- Three Ashland University staff members -- Sheila Howard, Greg Butdorff and Andrew Anschutz -- participated in the Blackboard Transact Administrator Certification training and exam course earlier this month and passed the exam.
Blackboard is the company with which the Eagle Card Office works to run the campus ID system, which includes building access, meal swipes and vending machines.
The Blackboard training was separated into three sections: customer, retail and product. The customer section covers customer records, cards and modification tools, while the retail section includes meal plans, point-of-sale devices, registers, menus and tax configuration. The product section covers products, departments, promotions and vendors.
The three participants each learned something new and will be able to apply what they learned in their daily employment activities.
“The most important thing I learned in the course was how each component and device communicated with the system and how its configuration needed to be set to make it functional,” said Anschutz, IT specialist and event coordinator.
Howard, who is a network analyst, commented that she found “the real world examples of how the system is used by other organizations to be most beneficial.”
The Blackboard training is expected to have a positive impact on Ashland University. “With this deeper understanding and greater knowledge of the Blackboard Transact system, we can help more fully realize the depth and breadth or implementation to help in the daily use and future plans of Ashland University,” Anschutz said.
