10/13/15 ASHLAND, Ohio – Dr. Michael Vimont, director of the Social Work Program at Ashland University, conducted a community presentation at Samaritan Hospital based on his applied research activities during the past four months. In attendance were community providers as well as city and county officials.
The research focus was on the community’s health needs as measured by a locally administered survey; an analysis of a series of focus groups; and review of secondary data related to health, economics, education, safety and youth risk behaviors. The assessment is part of a five-year grant funded by the Ohio Department of Health and administered by the Family and Children First Council of Ashland.
Dr. Vimont is working on similar projects in Wayne County, and plans are to extend the assessment project to Holmes County next year. The goal is for community planners from a variety of venues to prioritize their activities based on findings of these research endeavors.
