11/28/17 ASHLAND, Ohio – Sue Mullen, who joined Ashland University in 2006 as an adjunct instructor and then joined the AU faculty as a professional instructor of Accounting and Information Systems in 2016, has passed her Certified in Strategy and Competitive Analysis (CSCA) Exam.
According to Mullen, the CSCA exam is a specialty credential designed specifically for certified management accountants that complements and expands upon the strategic planning and analysis skills developed through the Certified Management Accountants certification. She said this is the first time this CSCA exam has been given.
“The Institute of Management Accountants (IMA) is an amazing organization that is constantly adapting to change and ensuring that their members stay relevant,” Mullen said. “The CSCA is just one example of how the IMA supports their members.”
Mullen noted that the CSCA handbook says, “Senior finance leaders are increasingly being called upon to apply their analytical and business skills to more strategically oriented organizational issues, increasing the value that they provide to their organizations. They are forming business partner relationships with operational functions to provide and analyze both financial and nonfinancial data to make better business decisions. The CFO team is being challenged to combine skills in strategy, operations, technology, and leadership, as well as accounting and finance, in order to become value creators, not just value stewards.”
Mullen received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Baldwin-Wallace College and a Master of Business Administration from Ashland University. Her previous employers include Meaden & Moore, Moen and BDO, a global CPA firm.
In addition to teaching courses in the accounting program, Mullen currently advises Ashland University’s IMA Student Accounting Club as well as the Student Ambassador for the OSCPA. She is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and a Certified Management Accountant (CMA). She is a member of the Ohio Society of Certified Public Accountants (OSCPA), the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), the American Accounting Association (AAA) and an active member in the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA).
