11/9/10 ASHLAND, OH -- The Ohio Society of CPAs and Ashland University will hold an Accounting Career Day for high schools students who are interested in learning more about the field of accounting. The event is set for Friday, Nov. 12, in the Ridenour Room of the Dauch College of Business and Economics Building.
Following the registration and tour of the Dauch College of Business and Economics Building, a 9:15 a.m. welcome and opening remarks will be presented by Dr. Raymond Jacobs, associate dean for the Dauch College; Emily Intagliata, IMA Accounting Club president; and Karen West from the Ohio Society of CPAs.
At 9:30 a.m., a session on "CPAs: Accountants with an Edge" will be held by Steve A. Martin, JD, CPA, MDS, who is with the CPA Review.
At 10:30 a.m., a session on "Accounting Student Experiences" will be held and will allow high school students to learn from Ashland University's accounting students about how to transition from high school to college, what it takes to succeed as an accounting major, a day in the life of a college accounting student, and more!
At 10:50 a.m., a session titled "The Life of a Fraud Investigator" will be presented by Dr. Victoria Kaskey, assistant professor of business administration at Ashland University. Kaskey will explore what it means to be a fraud examiner in various industries and she will perform a hands-on exercise in accounts receivable lapping balances.
At 11:15 a.m., a session titled "Accounting Professionals Experiences" will feature Ashland University alumni sharing their insights and experiences from the business world and discussing the variety of career choices available with an accounting degree.
Following a lunch sponsored by The Ohio Society of CPAs, a session titled "Accounting Game Show" will be presented. This fun and interactive session will summarize the day.
A 12:30 p.m., an admission office presentation will be made by Mike Bradley, admission representative for Ashland University, followed by an optional tour of campus, which will conclude the day's events.
