Ashland University Increases Financial Aid Awards

8/26/11 ASHLAND, OH -- Ashland University will be increasing the amount available in merit-based awards by more than 17 percent for incoming freshmen in 2012-2013.

"We as an institution are committing additional money to our financial aid packages in an effort to make college more affordable for more students," said Scott Van Loo, vice president of enrollment management and marketing. "The new award structure will increase the financial aid merit-based awards at all scholarship levels for incoming freshmen."

On Aug. 16, Ashland University's Cabinet approved the new financial aid award structure, which will include:

*         President's Scholarship of $15,000 annually (previously $13,000)

*         Provost's Scholarship of $13,000 annually (previously $11,000)

*         Director's Scholarship of $10,000 annually (previously $9,000)

*         Ambassador Award of $7,500 annually (previously $6,000)

These scholarship award levels are determined by a formula based on ACT test scores and high school GPA.

"We are constantly looking for ways to improve our financial aid awards, not only for needy students but for all students," Van Loo said. "We do not want financial challenges to be an obstacle to attending Ashland University, and I am pleased that we can provide this level of aid to the 2012-13 incoming freshman class."
