Ashland University MBA Program Establishes New Specialization in Health Care Management and Leadership

6/2/15 ASHLAND, Ohio – Ashland University’s MBA Program works hard to prepare its MBA students to meet present and future needs of the business world and it has added a new specialization in Health Care Management and Leadership in an effort to do this even better.

“The overall objective of the new specialization is to provide the students both the theoretical knowledge associated with health care management and leadership plus a set of practical tools to aid them in the challenges they face or may be facing in this dynamic industry,” said Steve Krispinsky, executive director of the MBA program at Ashland University.

Dr. Paul Miklovich, who serves as Administrative Director at the Cleveland Clinic, is the lead faculty member for the new specialization.

“This specialization is designed not only for the professionals currently working in health care, but also individuals who may wish to move into a health care management and leadership position,” Miklovich said.

Miklovich said the specialization builds on the core foundations of the Ashland MBA by extending the discussions learned in previous classes to the health care sector.

“This specialization is unique in that it covers a wide range of current topics while providing the student with a set of real world, practitioner-focused tools that can be used to effectively model, manage and improve the health care questions and issues currently facing the industry today and in the future,” he said.

Miklovich said the students will learn and develop a set of practitioner-based skills and tools that can be used to address issues related to strategy, organizational development, financial management, business analytics and organizational performance and quality improvement.

“A student completing the specialization will be prepared to enter the health care market with not only the theoretical knowledge related to health care management and leadership, but a set of skills and tools they can immediately apply to a new career or enhance their existing career,” he said.

The three-course sequence will be delivered via the in-class experience with a virtual classroom option also available. The sessions will be recorded for review. The specialization will start with the first course, the Health Care Organization, in the fall term of 2015. The remaining two courses will be offered during spring and summer terms of 2016.
