3/16/15 ASHLAND, Ohio – An Ashland University student in the Masters of Business Administration (MBA) program is set to release a new product in early 2016.

Erin Johnson, who is a native of Ashland and a 1995 graduate of Mapleton High School, will receive her MBA from Ashland University this May after participating in the MBA program’s online format.

“One of my inventions is going to market early in 2016 in a nationwide retail launch with a major baby products company,” Johnson said. “I not only invented the product but I also closed the deal with the baby products company and will provide the ongoing contract manufacturing support for this deal.”

Johnson said to be involved in the entire process from beginning to end was quite fulfilling for her.

“Before Ashland I did not have a full appreciation for how product development, marketing, finance and business planning worked and worked in coordination for the greater good,” she said. “Now I am a force within my organization to propel the company forward to new and better opportunities. Having this depth of background equips me to work efficiently and effectively at all levels of management and puts me well ahead of my peers.”

Johnson said some people are quick to dismiss an MBA obtained using an online format, but she defends the AU online program.

“The online format, just like any class structure, is merely another platform for learning,” Johnson explained, after noting that people are quick to dismiss an MBA obtained using an online format. “I found the course work and assignments quite challenging; requiring dedication, organization and concentration on my part.”

Johnson also explained that using the online format for her MBA education was useful in her becoming more technologically advanced in the business world, which is becoming increasingly technology based.

“I found that the online approach helped me to use online collaborative tools like Google docs, web conferencing, Angel blackboard and discussion postings more effectively while complimenting my daily work activities and experiences,” Johnson said. “All I can say is thank heavens for online education. It may not be for everyone, but it certainly worked for me.”

Johnson was inspired to get her MBA degree because of her work as sales and business development manager for the consumer division at Principle Business Enterprise (PBE) in Dunbridge, Ohio.

PBE is a 50+ year family-owned and operated company specializing in the manufacture of the following: adult incontinence products marketed under the brand names of Tranquility and Select, footwear products marketed under the brand name of Pillow Paws, consumer products developing and marketing consumer oriented absorbent products and advanced absorbent materials, sold to manufacturers and developers of health care, industrial, environmental and packaging products. PBE is a key supplier to consumers, caregivers, medical professionals, home health and health care institutions through distributors, dealers and retail outlets.

Johnson looks forward to the product launch and says she will continue creating more new products with her entrepreneurial spirit.
