1/11/17 ASHLAND, Ohio - Dr. Deborah Sullivan, who serves as the campus wellness director at Ashland University, and two AU students will be attending the Healthy Campus Challenge Day at the White House on Jan. 13.
Under the direction of Dr. Sullivan, the AU campus signed up for the White House Healthy Campus Challenge and was one of more than 350 higher education institutions from around the country involved in this effort to make sure the campus and community stay healthy and informed.
As part of the White House Healthy Campus Challenge initiative, a Health Insurance Marketplace Navigator, Julie Leon, was invited to campus Nov. 16 and Dec. 6 to answer questions about health care coverage, including current coverage, eligibility for new coverage, the Health Insurance Marketplace and Medicaid Expansion. One other navigator event is scheduled for Jan. 26 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Eagles’ Nest.
Promotion of these events was done via AUMyPortal, emails to students/faculty/staff, social media, The Collegian and WRDL. As a result, AU was entered into a lottery for a chance to attend the Healthy Campus Day at the White House and was selected to participate in the Healthy Campus Challenge Day at the White House on Jan. 13 in the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, South Court Auditorium, on the White House complex.
Dr. Sullivan and two AU students Jacqueline Genetin, the campus wellness intern, and Erin Adams, the campus wellness ‘Couch to 5K’ facilitator, will travel to D.C. for the event. While exact timing is still to be determined, First Lady Michelle Obama will offer remarks at the event.
