9/9/11 ASHLAND, OH -- Chaim Katzman, founder and chairman of Gazit-Globe, a leading international real estate company listed on the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange, will be the featured speaker for the ninth annual Dr. Lucille G. and L. W. Ford Distinguished Business Lecture Series at Ashland University.
The luncheon talk will be held at 12 noon on Thursday, Oct. 6, in Ashland University's Myers Convocation Center. The event is free, however reservations are required by Sept. 19. As founder, controlling shareholder and chairman of Gazit-Globe, a leading international real estate company listed on the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange (TASE:GLOB), Katzman directs global operations, manages affiliate and subsidiary activities and oversees more than $16 billion in assets located in North America, Europe, Israel and Brazil.
Katzman also is the founder, controlling shareholder and chairman of Gazit Inc., the parent company of Gazit Globe. He served as chairman of Gazit-Globe and Gazit Inc., since 1998 and 1991, respectively.
Katzman is the chairman of Equity One (NYSE:EQY), a Real Estate Investment Trust (REIT) he founded in 1992. Equity One is engaged in the acquisition, development and management of more than 180 shopping centers in major U.S. metropolitan areas.
Since 2000, Katzman also has served as chairman of First Capital Realty, a Canadian real estate investment company listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange (TSX:FCR). In 2008, following an investment by the Gazit Group, Katzman was appointed as chairman of Atrium European Real Estate (VSX/Euronext: ATRS), a leading real estate company that owns, operates and develops shopping centers in Central and Eastern Europe. In June 2010, Katzman was appointed as chairman of Citycon (OMX: CTY), an owner, developer and operator of shopping center sector with a strong position in Sweden and a firm foothold in the Baltic countries.
A pioneer of retail investment and development industry, Katzman is a member of the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC), the National Association of Real Estate Investment Trusts (NAREIT), the Urban Land Institute (ULI), the Real Estate Roundtable and the Association of Foreign Investors in Real Estate (AFIRE).
Katzman received an LL.B. from Tel Aviv University Law School. He is a well-known philanthropist and supporter of education. Katzman is an active civic leader, supporting multiple organizations in the United States and abroad. In 2004, Katzman and Gazit-Globe established the Chaim Katzman Gazit Globe Real Estate Institute at the Faculty of Management at the Tel Aviv University -- the first of its kind in Israel. The aim of the institute is to serve as a venue for academia to meet with the real estate industry and the industries allied with it.
Katzman and his wife, Dr. Shulamit Katzman, reside in Florida and have three daughters.
