2/13/14 ASHLAND, OH — Jessie Perry, a resident of Mentor, Ohio, and a student at Ashland University, has been selected as the American Collegiate Intramural Sports (ACIS) grand prize winner and will receive a trip to San Diego in April.
Perry, the daughter of Patrick and Patricia Perry, is a 2010 graduate of Mentor High School. The senior is double majoring in business management and marketing with a dual minor in entrepreneurship and nutrition at Ashland University.
ACIS, which works with Ashland University’s Recreation Center on a number of giveaway projects during the year, started a CollegeFitTip social media campaign that Perry joined the end of last year.
As part of the campaign, Perry had to submit a number of college fit tips on the ACIS social media sites such as Instagram and Twitter. The campaign was 16 weeks long and each week there was a weekly winner named.
Perry was named a weekly winner within just weeks of the campaign’s launch and this entered her into the finals with an opportunity to be selected as the grand prize winner. “I was determined to win it and with the help of a friend, we began filming a few college fit tips so I could keep submitting,” Perry stated.
Perry was then selected as the grand prize winner, which receives an all-expense paid trip to the United States Olympic Training Center in California, where she and three others of her choice will represent Ashland University at the 2014 ACIS National Fitness Championship in April.
Perry became extremely involved in fitness during her freshman year at Ashland University. As a senior, she is now an instructor for group fitness at the Recreation Center and is certified in Hip Hop Hustle, PiYo Strength, INSANITY, TurboKick and Piloxing. She also is a Beachbody Coach, which allows her to work with others around the country and helps them accomplish their goals.
“I now have the opportunity to help others and watch them succeed,” Perry said. “I have been lucky enough to workout with celebrity trainers such as Shaun T and Chalene Johnson, which is pretty cool!”
Perry believes that winning this contest is just the beginning for her. “I am excited because going on this trip will allow me to gain more experiences within the fitness and campus rec industry,” she said.
