AU Inaugurates Dr. Campo; Link to Watch Ceremony

10/19/15 ASHLAND, Ohio – Ashland University inaugurated Dr. Carlos Campo as the University’s 30th president on Oct. 16 before a large crowd in AU’s Jack and Deb Miller ChapelThis ceremony was streamed live and the event can be watched at: https://www.boxcast.com/show/#/ashland-university-presidential-inauguration.

A special guest for the event was former Attorney General John Ashcroft, who was the featured speaker and delivered the challenge for Dr. Campo.

Following the Ashcroft speech, the investiture ceremony was performed by Joyce Lamb, chair of the AU Board of Trustees, and Fred Broad, vice chair of the AU Board of Trustees. After the investiture ceremony, Dr. Campo provided his inaugural response.

The event included greetings extended by Dr. Jeff Sikkenga, president of AU’s Faculty Senate and professor of history and political science; James Walborn, president of the AU Alumni Association; Glen Stewart, mayor of the city of Ashland; State Rep. Dave Hall; and James Coyne, president of Student Senate.

The inauguration featured delegates attending from colleges and universities across the nation. Prior to the start of the inauguration, the delegates along with AU faculty, trustees and international students carrying the flags of their countries marched from the Recreation Center on campus to the Jack & Deb Miller Chapel.

Dr. William Crothers, former interim president at AU, provided the invocation, while professor emeritus Dr. Don Rinehart provided the benediction. Joyce Lamb, chair of the AU Board of Trustees, extended a welcome from the board.

The Ashland University Choir, directed by Professor of Music Dr. Rowland Blackley, performed two musical presentations, while the Ashland University Band, directed by Gary Ciulla, performed the opening and closing voluntaries as well as the processional for the Presentation of the Colors of the Nations. Dr. Tim Guenther played the organ prelude and the recessional. Dr. Campo’s son, Brett, and his sister, Cathi Campo Muckle, also performed special music for the event.
