9/7/17 ASHLAND,, Ohio -- President Dr. Carlos Campo will lead AU participants from the AU community to downtown Ashland on Friday, Sept. 8. Students, faculty and staff are encouraged to participate. The walk was originally set for Thursday but has been changed due to the weather.
Those associated with AU will gather on the quad side of Founders Hall shortly before 4 p.m. and at 4 p.m. will head down Grant Street toward the downtown area.
The City of Ashland Mayor Duane Fishpaw and other city officials will meet the AU delegation in front of Uniontown Brewing (the old Gilbert's building) around 4:15 p.m. and will distribute information and map cards at that time. The cards will have a list of all the businesses and details of giveaways.
Once downtown, we will engage in fun activities and shopping opportunities. For many new AU students, it also will provide a first introduction to the downtown and hopefully be the start of a long relationship between the two.
Campus Wellness came up with the idea for the walk to encourage a healthy campus community, while the Community Engagement Committee came up with the selfie scavenger hunt idea as a way to engage the students and help them explore the downtown. Following this meeting, people can disperse and explore and mingle on their own.
We are asking faculty, staff and students to participate in this University-Community event, which ties into Pillar 5 of our Strategic Plan -- Enhanced Community Engagement, and Pillar 4 – A Healthy Campus Community.
