AU Professor Awarded Residency at Haystack Mountain School of Crafts

3/18/15 ASHLAND, Ohio – Priscilla Roggenkamp, associate professor of art at Ashland University, has been awarded a two-week residency in art for the summer of 2015 by the Haystack Mountain School of Crafts in Deer Isle, Maine.

"I was very pleased to receive the offer from the Haystack School of Crafts,” Roggenkamp said. “The residency is quite an honor and it will be a great way for me to focus on continuing my study leave artwork.”

Roggenkamp was one of 45 artists selected from the more than 260 applicants. The confirmation letter from Haystack director Stuart Kestenbaum noted that the quality of the applications was high and the selection process rigorous.

Haystack, which was founded by a group of craft artists in 1950, offers intensive studio-based workshops in a variety of craft media including clay, glass, metals, paper, blacksmithing, weaving, woodworking and more. Programs range from short workshops to two-week sessions.

Roggenkamp, who is a native of Maine, studied art at Kent State University (M.F.A.), University of Arkansas (M.Ed.) and Heidelberg College (B.A.). Working primarily in drawing and painting, she began creating three-dimensional work in the mid-1990s. She has conducted art education workshops in Florida, Ohio and Maine and has co-authored several publications related to art and interdisciplinary curriculum. She is interested in inspiring and mentoring exemplary art educators who will then be prepared to inspire and mentor tomorrow’s creative young people.
