7/29/16 ASHLAND, Ohio – Ashland University student Alexandra Groh, a marketing major from Hinckley, Ohio, was involved in the preparation for the Republican National Convention as part of her summer internship with a Cleveland company.
Groh, who will be a sophomore at AU this fall, is participating in an internship with Brilliant Electric Sign Co. of Cleveland this summer, and as part of the internship, she was able to work behind the scenes at the Republican National Convention in July.
“Before the RNC started, our company was given the task to create and install the banners and signs for the RNC downtown at The Quicken Loans Arena, Convention Center, Progressive Field and various buildings in downtown Cleveland,” Groh explained. “I was able to help with this project and I actually created the spreadsheet that listed every sign and every banner along with the width and length, and pricing for each one. I also participated on conference calls with the client during the project.”
After the RNC was over, Groh assisted in the removal of the banners and posed for a number of pictures with the banners.
“There was so much excitement and energy in the downtown area during this time,” she said. “This was a great experience for me. I was able to learn quite a bit as there is a lot that goes into a large project like this -- from the design, project coordination, client meetings, fabrication, surveys of areas and actual installations, and ultimately the removal after the convention.”
