10/8/18 ASHLAND, Ohio – Author Hannah Brencher will deliver the 2018 Rinehart Lecture in Practical Theology at Ashland University on Wednesday, Nov. 7, at 7 p.m. in the Jack and Deb Miller Chapel on the AU campus. The lecture is free and open to the public.
Brencher will be speaking on the subject of her recently published book, Come Matter Here, a call for Christians to start living like they mean it here and now. In addition, Brencher will speak at AU’s The Well on Thursday, Nov. 8, in the Chapel at 8 p.m.
The Rinehart Lecture in Practical Theology is an annual endowed public lecture honoring the memory and continuing the work of Dr. Don Rinehart who, in his 46 years of teaching at Ashland, inspired generations of AU students. The event is co-sponsored by the Office of Christian Ministry and the Department of Religion.
Dr. Peter Slade, chair of AU’s Religion Department, explained the choice of this year’s lecturer.
“We invited Hannah to speak because this idea of being a disciple right where you are is something that is important to us as a Brethren Church related school,” Slade said. “This life of authentic witness and ministry was something that the late Don Rinehart and his wife Jan lived out right here in this school in rural Ohio for nearly half a century.”
Brencher is a writer, TED speaker and online educator with a heart for building leaders. She is the author of "Come Matter Here" and "If You Find This Letter." Named as one of the White House’s “Women Working to Do Good” and a spokesperson for the United States Postal Service, Brencher founded The World Needs More Love Letters in 2011. The global community has grown to over 20,000 individuals across six continents, 53 countries, all 50 states, and is established on over 63 college campuses.
Brencher has been featured in The Wall Street Journal, Oprah, Glamour, USATODAY.com, Chicago Tribune, and dozens of other publications. She graduated from Assumption College in 2010 with a double major in Sociology and English, with a concentration in Writing and Mass Communications. She calls Atlanta, Ga., her home.
