10/20/10 ASHLAND, OH -- On Sunday, Oct. 24, the Hunger Team of Ashland University's Community Care will help sponsor the CROP (Communities Reaching out to Overcome Poverty) Hunger Walk in Ashland.
The walk starts at 2:30 p.m., with registration beginning at 2 p.m. The walking route starts and ends at Christ United Methodist Church, 1140 Claremont Ave., in Ashland. Walkers may walk either one or six miles and everyone is invited to walk.
Co-sponsored by Ashland University's Community Care and local churches, the event is put together through Church World Service. Walkers are encouraged to find sponsors to raise money for world hunger. Twenty-five percent of the money raised stays in Ashland and the rest is distributed worldwide.
"We typically have more than 100 walkers from a variety of local churches and organizations and we raise upwards of $6,000," said Rebecca Schaaf, director of Community Service and Leadership Development at Ashland University.
