Dr. Ann Shelly Elected President of Association of Teacher Educators

3/5/12 ASHLAND, OH -- Dr. Ann Shelly, professor of education at Ashland University, has been elected as the 2012-2013 president of the Association of Teacher Educators (ATE) and was installed on Feb. 15 at the annual conference held in San Antonio, Texas. 


Shelly will preside over the 2012 summer meeting of the Association of Teacher Educators, which will be held in Cambridge, Mass., as well as the ATE 2013 Annual Meeting will be held at the Hyatt Regency in Atlanta. The theme selected by President Shelly is “Living and Learning across a Lifetime.”


The Association of Teacher Educators (ATE) was founded in 1920 and is an individual membership organization devoted solely to the improvement of teacher education both for school-based and post-secondary teacher educators. ATE members represent over 700 colleges and universities, over 500 major school systems, and the majority of state departments of education. The ATE office is located in the Washington, D.C., area where it represents its members’ interests before governmental agencies and education organizations. In addition, ATE has representatives on the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE).


Shelly has taught high school and middle school in Michigan. Her roles in higher education have included professor, department chair, associate dean and dean. She served on the NCATE Board of Examiners, president of Ohio Association of Teacher Educators, the Ohio Professional Standards Board, and has been active in ATE for 20 years. She has served as a member of the ATE Board of Directors; as a member of Resolutions and Corporate By-laws Committees; on Taskforces, including Committee Structure, By-laws Review, and Conference Restructuring; and  was co-chair of the Reno summer conference. Her recent research has appeared in the Journal of Social Issues and Current Research in Social Psychology.
