8/15/12 ASHLAND, Ohio - Dr. Harold Wilson, professor in the Dwight Schar College of Education at Ashland University, has endowed a $25,000 scholarship that will be presented annually to an education degree student or students at Ashland University.
The Dr. Harold E. & Mary Frances Omwake Wilson Endowed Scholarship at Ashland University was established in June by Wilson in his name and the name of his late wife. Wilson, who joined Ashland University in 1998, is a professor of educational leadership in the doctoral program.
“Dr. Wilson has been an esteemed professor at Ashland University for many years teaching graduate students who are pursuing their doctoral degree in the field of education,” said Ashland University President Dr. Fred Finks. “Dr. Wilson’s legacy and passion for Ashland University’s Graduate Program, along with his lifelong commitment and dedication to the field of education, is second to none.”
Wilson said he decided to establish the endowed scholarship because it will help students receive a private education at Ohio’s best teacher education college. “It is a gift that keeps on giving year after year and will continue to touch students forever,” he said.
“My education changed my life. Because of the encouragement and support of others, known and unknown, I was able to pursue my educational dreams through the doctorate,” Wilson said. “Both my wife and I have had meaningful, fulfilling careers in the field of education. My hope is that this scholarship will enable others to pursue their educational dreams.”
According to the endowed scholarship stipulations, the scholarship recipient(s) will be selected on the basis of academic merit and financial need. The recipient(s) must maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0 in pursuit of the education degree. This may be renewed annually provided that the recipient(s) maintain the required GPA and must be in good standards within the Ashland University community. If a qualified student is not available, the scholarship will be awarded by the Office of Financial Aid to a deserving education major.
