4/3/13 ASHLAND, Ohio - Ashland University Theatre’s Drop of a Hat Players, a musical theatre revue troupe, presents its 2013 Spring Showcase on Saturday, April 13, at 2 p.m. in the Hugo Young Theatre in the Center for the Arts. Although the performance is free and open to the public, audience members are encouraged to reserve a free ticket through the Ashland University box office to guarantee a seat. The box office is open 12 to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday, and can be reached at 419.289.5125.
From “Chicago” and “Annie Get Your Gun” to “Mama Mia” and “Shrek the Musical,” the performance promises to cover more than 50 years of musical theatre gems. The students will perform more than twenty songs from classic and contemporary musical theatre productions.
Directed by Fabio Polanco, assistant professor of theatre, with music direction by senior music education major Eddie Carney, performers for the showcase include seniors Derek Jackenheimer, Emily Plank, Johanna Regan and Brandy Riha; juniors Kelsey Bowens, Emily Jeppesen, Katie Mounts, Christian Neely, Jacob Poiner, Becca Ribley and Brandon Wurgess; and freshman Colleen Mathias. Junior Kelli Lennox is the stage manager.
Founded in the early 1990s as an outreach program for the Ashland University Theatre Department, the group provides a performance training opportunity for students as they perform throughout the year at banquets, meetings, parties, civic group engagements or other special events.
