Faculty and Staff Members Win Awards at Leadership and Service Recognition Reception

4/25/13 ASHLAND, Ohio – Faculty and staff members of Ashland University were recognized and awarded for their hard work and dedication at the 26th Annual Leadership and Service Recognition Reception held on April 21. This awards banquet is held to honor those students, faculty and staff members who show great leadership and dedication to their work at Ashland University.

Those faculty and staff members receiving awards were:

Dr. Louis Mancha, associate professor of philosophy, who was named the Outstanding Male Faculty Member of the Year. This award is presented to the top male nominee who embodies the ideals of the Ashland University mission, is involved in the University community, serves as a role model to the campus community, and displays exemplary academic advising skills. Dr. Mancha was nominated by Newman Catholic Campus Ministries.

Dr. Jayne Waterman, associate professor of English, who was named the Outstanding Female Faculty Member of the Year. This award is presented to the top female nominee who embodies the ideals of the Ashland University mission, is involved in the University community, serves as a role model to the campus community, and displays exemplary academic advising skills. Dr. Waterman was nominated by Orientation Team and Black Student Union.

Dr. Deborah Sullivan, professor of family and consumer sciences education, and Dr. Patrick Campbell, assistant professor of political science, who both won the Dr. Donald Rinehart Honor and Integrity award. This award is presented to an individual who has high integrity and has set high personal standards for self and others. The recipient encourages others to strive for sound character and offers compassion and empathy. This individual is a role model for students, faculty, and staff. Dr. Sullivan was nominated by Alpha Delta Pi sorority and Dr. Campbell was nominated by Student Senate.

Jonathan Locust Jr., director of multicultural student services and the director of student conduct, who won the Diversity Enhancement award. This award is presented to a student, program, or group who demonstrates a commitment to enhancing diversity and creates partnerships within the campus organization. Locust was nominated by Delta Zeta sorority and Student Senate.

Mick Steiner, residence director and graduate assistant of Greek life, who took home the Outstanding Male Staff Member of the Year award. This award is presented to the top male nominee who embodies the ideals of the Ashland University mission, is involved in the University community, serves as a role model to the campus community, and displays commitment toward student development. Steiner was nominated by Community Care and Orientation Team.

Anna Fisher in building services, who won the Outstanding Female Staff Member of the Year award. This award is named in honor of former staff member M. Patricia Brereton and is presented to the top female nominee who embodies the ideals of the Ashland University mission, is involved in the University community, serves as a role model to the campus community, and displays commitment toward student development. Fisher was nominated by Newman Catholic Campus Ministries and Student Senate.
