Former Logan Resident Appointed as Executive Director of International Programs

5/13/11 ASHLAND, OH -- Ashland University has appointed Dr. Nathan Myers, a former resident of Logan, Ohio, as the new executive director of International Programs. Myers has been serving as the interim executive director since January of this year.

Myers has served as an associate professor in the Department of Education Foundations at Ashland University for the past six years.

"Dr. Myers brings a wealth of experience of working with international students and international travel that will provide a great foundation to move this program area into the future," said Ashland University Provost Dr. Frank Pettigrew. "The development of new initiatives such as the Ambassador Program and new scholarship programs for international students highlight his work this spring semester."

Pettigrew said that having a person with the educational background of Myers is critical in the development and implementation of the new global competency requirement for the University.

"The national accreditation of the ACCESS program is also a major goal of Dr. Myers as well as diversifying the international students at Ashland," Pettigrew said. "Dr. Myers has a strong commitment to strengthening the opportunities for all students to have a quality international experience through Ashland University."

Myers came to Ashland University in 2005. His main area of research has revolved around the intersection of faith, politics and education in American life and he has been active in promoting internationalization efforts within the curriculum of teacher education and the University at-large.

Myers has a bachelor of arts degree in history from Mt. Vernon Nazarene College and a Ph.D. in educational policy and evaluation from the University of Kentucky.
