Windle, Sindelar Named AU Student-Athletes Of The Year

6/17/15 ASHLAND, Ohio - Ashland University's track and field program has boasted many honors over the years, and it also can claim a 2014-15 Ashland University Student-Athletes of the Year sweep, as senior Drew Windle and junior Jamie Sindelar have earned this year's awards.

Windle capped a stellar collegiate career in 2014-15 with two more 800-meter run national championships – one indoors (1:49.24) and one outdoors (1:48.89) – and two more 800-meter Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference titles, both indoors (1:49.38) and outdoors (1:49.11). He also won the GLIAC outdoor championship in the 1,500-meter run, as well (3:54.50).

The eight-time national champion and 15-time All-American was named the GLIAC Male Track Athlete of the Week once outdoors and once indoors. Windle also earned GLIAC All-Academic honors both indoors and outdoors.

Sindelar's standout junior campaign included a second-place national finish indoors in the shot put (51-feet-3¾/15.64 meters). Her season-best mark of 55-feet-4¼ (16.87 meters) is the second-best Division II women's indoor shot put effort of all-time, and also earned Sindelar a GLIAC title.

Following the indoor season, she was named U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Midwest Region Women's Field Athlete of the Year and GLIAC Women's Field Athlete of the Year.

Sindelar earned a 2014-15 GLIAC Commissioner's Award (winter), was named to the GLIAC All-Academic Excellence Team both indoors and outdoors and was named GLIAC Female Field Athlete of the Week once outdoors.

Both Windle and Sindelar will be honored at the annual Ashland University Hall of Fame induction, Saturday, Oct. 17, at 9:30 a.m., in the Faculty Room at the John C. Myers Convocation Center. Reservations can be made by contacting the AU athletic department at 419-289-5441.
