12/9/16 ASHLAND, Ohio – Ashland University’s Winter 2016 Commencement will be held on Dec. 17 at 10 a.m. in Kates Gymnasium inside the Physical Education Center on the Ashland University campus. The speaker for the event will be Frederick B. Broad, vice chair of the Ashland University Board of Trustees.
No tickets will be required for the event, which is open to the public. The ceremony will be streamed live --

Faculty and students who are participating in the ceremony are to assemble at 9 a.m. in the Conard Field House located just west of the Physical Education Center.
Frederick B. Broad began his career as a sales representative with Packaging Corporation of America (PCA). In 1982, he co-founded Packaging Specialists LLC in Pittsburgh. Over the course of 30 years, the company grew to more than 200 employees serving clients such as Hershey's, Glaxo Smith Kline and Bayer Medical. In 2012, Fred and his business partner sold their company to PCA. Today, he serves as the company's Brand Ambassador.
Fred is a December 1975 graduate of Ashland College. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business, majoring in Marketing and Economics. He met his wife, Anne Mainwaring, at Ashland and she graduated the following year. Anne is a retired speech pathologist.
In 2010, Fred was the recipient of the Ashland Alumni Association’s Special Achievement Award. He currently serves as the Vice-Chair of the Board of Trustees and is the Chairman of the Advancement Committee. He also served on the Board at Shady Side Academy, a private K-12 school in Fox Chapel, Pa. His passion for helping children reach their potential and supporting education has long been a labor of love.
Fred and Anne reside in Pittsburgh, Pa., and have two grown children: Jeffrey - a Furman University graduate and Kelly – a graduate of the University of Colorado. Jeff and Kelly both reside in New York City.
