Wooster Area Students Participate in OCTM Tournament

2/29/12 ASHLAND, OH -- Students from one local high school took part in the 39th annual Tournament of Mathematics sponsored by the Ohio Council of Teachers of Mathematics (OCTM) and held on the Ashland University campus on Feb.25.


The following local high school students were all participants. 


Mark Gordon, Derek Jones, Andrew Tarutani, Rachel Landon, Hannah Lyons, and Kimberly Carter from Triway High School. 


All Ohio public, private and home-schooled students in grades 9-12 are invited to participate with students registering as a school team member (for schools that are sponsoring a team), as an independent student (if his/her school is not sponsoring a team) or as a home-schooled student. The contest is administered at test sites across Ohio.


Dr. Vickie Van Dresar, associate professor of mathematics at Ashland University, is the local site director and Dr. Cathy Stoffer, associate professor of mathematics at Ashland University, is the state wide contest director. Dr. Christopher Swanson, Dr. Justin Young, and Math 432 students Marissa Abram, Larissa Berry, Alicia Metzer, Anna Payne, Brad Sekas, and Emma Vandenberg helped facilitate at the Ashland University test site.


Testing time was 60 minutes for 40 questions, and calculators were permitted. Top scoring students will receive awards and may qualify for available scholarships.
