Dr. Mary Lutz, director of the Columbus Center, received an Outstanding Community Service Award for providing space and serving four Nigerian Consulate officials out of New York. They had been invited to Columbus by the Ohio Chapter of Nigerians in Diaspora Organizations Americas to process passports for our central Ohio neighbors.
During two days this past fall, four consulate officials processed over 175 passports for our Nigerian neighbors out of the Columbus Center, working with the Ohio NIDO chapter. The Columbus Center provided water in the waiting rooms, along with hospitality for our visiting guests and the sponsoring organization. Our visiting consulate officials included:
Ifeoma Dibia, Immigration Attache
Dr. Jonas Iyaji, Immigration Assistant
Mary Emer, Immigration Secretary
Tess Currenti, Accounts Revenue Collector
In the end, the consulate officials asked if they had permission to recommend Ashland University to international students from Nigeria. We, of course, encouraged them to recommend Ashland University based on their positive experience.
