Ashland University Sets Academic-Themed Visit Days for Summer

The Ashland University Office of Admissions has partnered with all academic departments on campus and will provide interactive Summer Visit Programs that will allow prospective students to investigate the college majors and careers that they are considering.

“The summer 2015 visit days are set up to allow prospective students to experience Ashland University in a number of ways, including spending time with faculty and current AU students as well as asking questions of admissions representatives,” said W.C. Vance, director of admissions. “These programs are more comprehensive than traditional campus visits because of the heavy academic and career component.”

Ashland University Students Receive IMA Memorial Education Fund National Scholarships

Ashland University seniors Emily Sparks, an accounting and finance major from Plymouth, Ohio, and Stephen Cox, an accounting and finance major from Medina, Ohio, have received the IMA Memorial Education Fund (MEF) National Scholarship from the Institute of Management Accountants for 2015.

Sparks, a 2012 graduate of South Central High School, is the daughter of Donald and Lorraine Sparks of Plymouth, while Cox is a 2012 graduate of Cloverleaf Senior High School and the son of Stephen Sr. and Christine Cox of Medina.

AU Student and Ashland Native Awarded The J.M. Smucker Company Annual Scholarship

Steve Mowry, an Ashland University junior majoring in accounting and finance, was named The J.M. Smucker Co. scholarship award winner for the academic year 2014-15 at AU’s Student Institute of Management Accountants (IMA) meeting.

The scholarship was presented to Mowry by Nick Workinger, director of U.S. Retail Sales Finance of The J.M. Smucker Co. Mowry, a 2012 graduate of Ashland High School, is the son of Steve Sr. and Rhonda Mowry of Ashland, Ohio.

10/29/14 ASHLAND, Ohio – Two Ashland University MBA students have been recognized for their outstanding work and were named recipients of the Certified Management Accountant (CMA) scholarships by the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA) at AU’s Student IMA meeting on Oct. 15.

Those receiving the CMA scholarships were Sarah Urban of Kenya and Lisa Brainard from Medina.

Ashland University’s Joyce Badertscher, a senior from Apple Creek majoring in accounting, has received the Ohio CPA Foundation’s College Scholarship. Badertscher, who is the daughter of Jack and Johanna Badertscher of Apple Creek, is a 2011 graduate of Waynedale High School.

Badertscher is in Ashland University’s Accelerated BS/MBA program with an accounting specialization and is an accounting tutor for the University. She will be completing an accounting internship this summer with The J.M. Smucker Company.

Two Ashland University students have been recognized for their outstanding work and were named the recipients of the Certified Management Accountant (CMA) scholarships by the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA) at Ashland University’s Student IMA meeting on March 26.

Those receiving the CMA scholarships were John Cline of Ravenna and Joyce Badertscher of Apple Creek.

Students Graduate from AU’s New Accelerated Accounting Program

Three Ashland University students -- Katie McVay, Ashley (Calhoon) McCorkle and Beau Carpenter -- received degrees at Winter Commencement on Dec. 14 as the first graduates of Ashland University’s new accelerated BSBA/MBA accounting program.

McVay of Fresno, Ohio; McCorkle of Butler, Ohio; and Carpenter of Marshallville, Ohio, all received Bachelor of Science degrees in accounting as well as MBA degrees in executive management with an accounting specialization after they finished AU’s new program that allows accounting majors to complete both a bachelor’s degree and an MBA in five years or less.

Ashland University Added to OSCPA Program

Ashland University senior, Nick Kemmerle, has been selected to serve as the ambassador for the 2013-14 year.

The Ohio CPA Foundation, the charitable affiliate of The Ohio Society of CPAs (OSCPA), has expanded its successful Student Ambassador Program to include Ashland University.

Dr. Kris Parsons, chair of the department of accounting and information systems at Ashland University, said the Student Ambassador Program is built around the concept of peer-to-peer networking and counseling. The goal of the program is to encourage students to consider majoring in accounting and becoming CPAs by exposing them to the wide array of career opportunities in the CPA profession.
