Ashland University Receives Affirmation of Dual ACBSP Accreditation

Ashland University’s Dauch College of Business and Economics has received word from the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP) that its dual accreditation has been approved with no areas of concern.

“We received a letter from the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs saying that the Baccalaureate/Graduate Degree Board of Commissioners met earlier this year and reviewed the College’s Quality Assurance Report for our overall business programs and the separate accounting accreditation,” said Dr. Elad Granot, dean of the Dauch College of Business and Economics. “After this review, the board voted to accept our report without any notes or conditions.”

Dr. Elad Granot, dean of the Dauch College of Business and Economics, was featured on a WEWS-TV 5 Cleveland news segment with Jonathan Walsh. Dr. Granot spoke about Ohio's tax-free weekend as a part of the On Your Side investigation that looked into whether the tax holiday really saves people money. Granot called the tax-free weekend a political stunt.

"The data shows that for the state it's pretty much a wash," Granot said. "They're not losing any revenue because most of the consumers will walk into stores and buy stuff that's covered by the tax break but then buy a lot more things that are not."

Ashland University Student to Compete in National Collegiate Pistol Championships

Ashland University student Jessica Syme, a junior from Westfield Township in Medina County, Ohio, will be competing in the 2017 NRA National Collegiate Pistol Championships that will be held at Fort Benning, Ga., March 20-24. Syme, who is an accounting and finance major at Ashland University, is a 2015 graduate of Ohio Virtual Academy.

Syme will be one of 20 young ladies from colleges and universities across the nation competing in women’s events based on their scores during the sectional competition held at Ohio State University on Feb. 11. Syme will be competing in the Sport Pistol event after placing third in that competition at the sectionals. She is ranked eighth on the list of national competitors for Women’s Sport Pistol.

AU Business Students to Create Mobile Apps in Introductory Class

Ashland University Dauch College of Business and Economics students taking the Information Technology (IS 221) class this fall will be doing something unique on campus – working in a computer lab to develop mobile apps.

“All College of Business and Economics students are required to take IS 221 so all business students will have this new knowledge,” said Victoria Kaskey, chair of the accounting and information systems department in the Dauch College. “This is unique to AU. We are not aware of another college integrating apps creation into their introductory IS classes.”

AU Students Receive Scholarship from Northeast Chapter of the Institute of Internal Auditors

Ashland University senior Taylor Randles, an accounting major from Stow, Ohio, and sophomore Rachel Shock, an accounting major from Loudonville, Ohio, were awarded $250 scholarships from the Northeast Chapter of the Institute of Internal Auditors.

Randles is a 2013 graduate of Canal Winchester High School and the daughter of late mother Angela Boyer and father Timothy Randles. Shock is a 2014 graduate of Triway High School and the daughter of David and Cindy Shock.

Ashland University Business Students Receive Awards from Financial Executives International

Ashland University sophomore Mitchell Kelly, an accounting and finance major from Mansfield, Ohio, and sophomore Jessica Syme, an accounting and finance major from Seville, Ohio, received the Outstanding Students award from Financial Executives International (FEI).

Kelly, a 2014 graduate of Madison Comprehensive High School, is the son of Doug and Heather Kelly. Syme, a 2015 graduate of the Ohio Virtual Academy, is the daughter of John and Jennifer Syme of Seville.

Ashland University Students Receive IMA National Scholarships

Ashland University sophomore Jessica Syme, an accounting and finance major from Seville, Ohio, and senior Taylor Randles, an accounting major from Stow, Ohio, have received the IMA Memorial Education Fund (MEF) National Scholarship from the Institute of Management Accountants for 2016.

Syme, a 2015 graduate of the Ohio Virtual Academy, is the daughter of John and Jennifer Syme of Seville. Randles is a 2013 graduate of Canal Winchester High School and the daughter of her late mother Angela Boyer and father Timothy Randles.

Ashland University Accounting Professor Receives Award

Dr. Kris Parsons, associate professor of accounting and chair of the Accounting and Information Systems Department at Ashland University, has received the 2016 Outstanding Accounting Contributor Award sponsored by the Ohio Society of CPAs.

Parsons received the award in recognition of her advancement of accounting education. The award was presented to her by Scot Wiley, CEO of the Ohio Society of CPAs, at the American Accounting Association Ohio Regional Meeting held in Beechwood, Ohio.

AU Student Awarded The J.M. Smucker Company Annual Scholarship

Emily Sparks, an Ashland University senior majoring in accounting, was named the J.M. Smucker Co. scholarship award winner for the academic year 2015-16 at AU’s Student Institute of Management Accountants (IMA) February meeting.

The scholarship was presented to Sparks by Nick Workinger, director, U.S. Retail Sales Finance of The J.M. Smucker Co. Sparks, a 2012 graduate of South Central High School, is the daughter of Donald and Lorraine Sparks of Greenwich, Ohio.
