Ashland University Sets Academic-Themed Visit Days for Summer

The Ashland University Office of Admissions has partnered with all academic departments on campus and will provide interactive Summer Visit Programs that will allow prospective students to investigate the college majors and careers that they are considering.

“The summer 2015 visit days are set up to allow prospective students to experience Ashland University in a number of ways, including spending time with faculty and current AU students as well as asking questions of admissions representatives,” said W.C. Vance, director of admissions. “These programs are more comprehensive than traditional campus visits because of the heavy academic and career component.”

Ashland University Students Receive IMA Memorial Education Fund National Scholarships

Ashland University seniors Emily Sparks, an accounting and finance major from Plymouth, Ohio, and Stephen Cox, an accounting and finance major from Medina, Ohio, have received the IMA Memorial Education Fund (MEF) National Scholarship from the Institute of Management Accountants for 2015.

Sparks, a 2012 graduate of South Central High School, is the daughter of Donald and Lorraine Sparks of Plymouth, while Cox is a 2012 graduate of Cloverleaf Senior High School and the son of Stephen Sr. and Christine Cox of Medina.

AU Student and Ashland Native Awarded The J.M. Smucker Company Annual Scholarship

Steve Mowry, an Ashland University junior majoring in accounting and finance, was named The J.M. Smucker Co. scholarship award winner for the academic year 2014-15 at AU’s Student Institute of Management Accountants (IMA) meeting.

The scholarship was presented to Mowry by Nick Workinger, director of U.S. Retail Sales Finance of The J.M. Smucker Co. Mowry, a 2012 graduate of Ashland High School, is the son of Steve Sr. and Rhonda Mowry of Ashland, Ohio.

Ashland University Junior Awarded Endowed Scholarship

Bellevue native Kelsey Yantz, junior finance major at Ashland University, has been awarded the 2014-2015 Business Advisory Council’s Endowed Scholarship.

Yantz received this prestigious scholarship in the amount of $1,053 at the fall 2014 Business Advisory Council Meeting that was held earlier this month. She was selected from among 19 eligible students, all of whom had a grade point average of 3.5 or higher.

Eagle Investment Group Takes Annual Trip to New York City

Nine members of the Eagle Investment Group (EIG) at Ashland University, all senior finance majors, had the opportunity to spend four days in Manhattan, N.Y., networking with business professionals in the finance industry.

In addition to the networking opportunities, the senior Ashland University finance majors spent time on Wall Street, and visited a combination of historic, cultural and business sites. Over the four days, the students visited Battery Park, the New York Stock Exchange, Ground Zero, headquarters of Abel Noser’s brokerage operations, The Federal Reserve Bank of New York, AXA U.S. Headquarters, Bloomberg Corporate headquarters and the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Ashland University Named to the CFA Institute University Recognition Program

After a stringent review of program outcomes by the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Institute, Ashland University has become the latest university to be named to the CFA Institute University Recognition Program.

Dr. James Falter, assistant professor of finance at Ashland University, said Ashland University is now one of only four Ohio colleges or universities recognized in this program by the CFA Institute.

Ashland University Student Awarded The J.M. Smucker Co. Annual Scholarship

Leslie Johnson, an Ashland University senior finance major with minors in accounting and mathematics, was named the J.M. Smucker Co. scholarship award winner for the academic year 2013-14 at AU’s Student Institute of Management Accountants (IMA) meeting last month.

The scholarship was presented to Johnson by Nick Workinger, manager of finance and accounting, U.S. Retail Coffee of The J.M. Smucker Co. Johnson, a 2011 graduate of Hilliard Bradley High School, is the daughter of Jay Johnson of Thornville, Ohio.

Local High School Students Participate in Ashland University’s 7th Annual Financial Literacy Event

High school students from around the state participated in Ashland University’s Financial Literacy event held Nov. 4 on the Ashland University campus.

The Granville FCCLA Financial Literacy Team under adviser/coach Cindy Shaffer took first place, while Troy High School under adviser/coach Cheryl Kies placed second and Woodridge High School under adviser/coach Leah Norris took third place in the five-team competition.
