Ashland University Begins 2010-2011 Academic Year with Large Incoming Class

9/13/10 ASHLAND, OH -- While official numbers will not be available from the registrar's office until later this semester, it appears that Ashland University boasts one of the largest freshman classes in recent years and continues to bring in better academically qualified students.

"This is a very strong freshman class for us and we are very impressed with the quality of students and their involvement on the campus," said Colleen Murphy, vice president of marketing and enrollment management.

Ashland University's Eagle Investment Group Adds Third Fund

9/13/10 ASHLAND, OH -- In response to the growth and success of Ashland University's Eagle Investment Group, the University's Investment Committee of the Board of Trustees has granted a third fund for the selected finance majors to manage.

Students in Ashland's Eagle Investment Group were first offered the chance to gain practical experience by managing the University's investments in January of 2000 and have managed a portion of the University's investment portfolio ever since.

Ashland University Bookstore to Offer Story Time

9/10/10 ASHLAND, OH -- The Ashland University Bookstore, Youth and Literacy Team and Peers for Animal Welfare (PAW) invite those in the community to meet Clifford, the Big Red Dog, on Saturday, Sept. 25, at 11 a.m. in the Ashland University Bookstore.

The event, which is free and open to the public, will include a reading of several short stories from the Clifford series as well as Clifford-themed events. Give-a-ways will include balloons, cookies, coloring sheets and bookmarks, and each child will have the opportunity to have his or her picture taken with Clifford.

Ashland University's to Hold its First Business Succession Workshop

9/9/10 ASHLAND, OH -- The newly announced ACCENT on Business Succession initiative will take its first official step on the Ashland University campus Nov. 3 when it holds its one-day intensive workshop for business owners and their spouses.

The one-day workshop, which will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., is sponsored by Ashland University's Richard E. and Sandra J. Dauch College of Business and Economics, the Burton D. Morgan Center for Entrepreneurial Studies, the Sandberg Leadership Center and is being coordinated by the office of Legacy Estate Programs.

Ashland University's Coburn Gallery to Host Photography Exhibition

9/9/10 ASHLAND, OH -- The Coburn Gallery at Ashland University will be hosting a photography exhibition titled "Classical Methods, Contemporary Vision: Figurative Photography in the Alternative Process" from Oct. 7 to 31.

The exhibition, which will open on Thursday, Oct. 7, with a reception from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., will be curated by Herbert Ascherman Jr., platinum photographic artist, writer, historian and 30-year photo gallery director in collaboration with the nationally known wet plate collodian photographer Jeannette Palsa.

Ashland University Theatre Hosting Costume Sale In Time For Halloween

9/8/10 ASHLAND, OH -- Ashland University Theatre is cleaning its closets and hosting a costume sale on Saturday, Sept. 25, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Heritage Room in the John C. Myers Convocation Center.

Items range from $.25 to $15, and include a large variety of costumes ideal for Halloween. Highlights include men's suits, military uniforms, a cow costume, Cabaret costumes (multiples of the same costume), western dresses, harem hats, dozens of wigs, and props (curtains, bedding, wall paper, table clothes, etc.).

Ashland University Box Office Now Open For Event Sales

9/8/10 ASHLAND, OH -- The Ashland University Central Box Office is now open for campus event sales, Monday through Friday, 12 noon to 6 p.m., and one hour prior to events. In addition to University events, the Box Office sells tickets to all Ashland Symphony Orchestra concerts with the exception of season tickets.

Ashland University's MFA Residency Draws Writers and Students from Across the Nation

9/6/10 ASHLAND, OH -- Readings and workshops by renowned memoirist Tobias Wolff and Pulitzer-Prize winning poet Natasha Trethewey highlighted this year's Ashland University Master's in Fine Arts Summer Residency at which nine students successfully defended creative theses and were awarded the MFA in Creative Writing.

University's Nonviolence Presentation to Focus on Israel and Palestine

9/6/10 ASHLAND, OH -- "The Israeli - Palestinian Conflict: A Struggle for a Homeland" will be the focus of a presentation by Dr. John Byron, associate professor of New Testament and Greek at the Ashland Theology Seminary.

The presentation will be held in the Ronk Lecture Hall in the Schar College of Education on Wed., Sept. 15, at 7:30 p.m. Dr. Byron's talk is sponsored by the Ashland Center for Nonviolence and is free and open to the public.
