Ashland University MFA Program Hosts Open House and Reading by Mark Irwin

10/20/10 ASHLAND, OH -- The Ashland University Master of Fine Arts (MFA) Program will host an open house Tuesday, Nov. 2, at 5:30 p.m. in the Myers Convocation Center. The open house will feature a brief presentation about the MFA program, a question-and-answer session, and a complementary dinner. Ashland University to Celebrate Community Service Week

10/19/10 ASHLAND, OH -- The Center for Community Service at Ashland University has scheduled a number of events for students as well as faculty and staff members as part of its "Calling All Volunteers" Community Service Week Oct. 23-30.

The week of special events begins on Make-A-Difference Day, Saturday, Oct. 23. Students will be assisting with a variety of projects throughout the community, including leaf raking for senior citizens.

Coburn Gallery at Ashland University to Host Sculpture Exhibition

10/15/10 ASHLAND, OH -- The Coburn Gallery at Ashland University will be hosting a sculpture exhibition titled "Resilience" by Michigan artist Anne Mondro. This exhibition will open on Thursday, Nov. 4, with a reception set for 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Mondro also will present an artist lecture on Wednesday, Nov. 10, at 9:30 a.m. in the Ronk Lecture Hall in the Schar College of Education Building on the Ashland campus.

Ashland University's Spectrum Series to Feature Golden Dragon Acrobats

10/15/10 ASHLAND, OH -- The final Spectrum event of the fall semester will be held Nov. 16 when the Golden Dragon Acrobats will perform at 7:30 p.m. in Hugo Young Theatre inside the Center for the Arts.

The Golden Dragon Acrobats represent the best of a time honored tradition that began more than 25 centuries ago. World renowned impresario Danny Chang and choreographer Angela Chang combine award-winning acrobatics, traditional dance, spectacular costumes, ancient and contemporary music and theatrical techniques to present a show of breathtaking skill and spellbinding beauty.

Ashland University Halloween Story Time Set

10/15/10 ASHLAND, OH -- The Ashland University Bookstore is throwing a Halloween story time and costume party on Saturday, Oct. 30, at 11 a.m. This event is open to the public, and members of the Ashland University Youth and Literacy Team will be there to share stories, snacks and activities.

Those planning to attend should call 419-289-5336 to reserve your spot today. The Ashland University Bookstore is located inside the Hawkins-Conard Student Center. This event is funded in part with a grant from Wal-Mart.

Nonviolence Center Plans Reading by Author Ana Maria Spagna

10/15/10 ASHLAND, OH -- River Teeth book prize winner, Ana Maria Spagna, will be visiting Ashland University on Tuesday, Oct. 26, and will present a reading from her book, "Test Ride on the Sunnyland Bus: A Daughter's Civil Rights Journey" at 7 p.m. in the Ronk Lecture Hall located in the Schar College of Education.
Spagna will chronicle the story of an American family, more specifically, her family, against the backdrop of a lesser-known story of the civil rights movement.

Ashland University's Alpha Phi Sorority Plans Red Dress Gala

10/14/10 ASHLAND, OH -- Ashland University's Alpha Phi Sorority is hosting its second annual Red Dress Gala on Nov. 6. The gala, which is open to University friends and members of the community, raises money for the Alpha Phi Foundation, an organization dedicated to helping families in need with assistance ranging from disaster relief to help following a death in the family.

Ashland Center for Nonviolence to Host Panel Discussion on 'Can Politics Be Truthful?'

10/13/10 ASHLAND, OH -- The Ashland Center for Nonviolence will host a panel discussion featuring three Ashland University professors discussing "Can Politics Be Truthful?" This event is free and will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 19, at 7:30 p.m. in the Ridenour Room of the Dauch College of Business and Economics.

Director of the B. Kenneth Simon Center for American Studies at The Heritage Foundation to speak at Ashland University

10/13/10 ASHLAND, OH -- Matthew Spalding, director of the B. Kenneth Simon Center for American Studies at The Heritage Foundation, will speak at Ashland University on Oct. 26. Spalding will address "Realigning American Politics: Do We Still Hold These Truths?" as part of the fall 2010 Major Issues Lecture Series presented by the John M. Ashbrook Center for Public Affairs at Ashland University.
