Ashland University Music Department Presenting Several Recitals in January

1/5/11 ASHLAND, OH -- The Department of Music at Ashland University begins the spring semester in January with several student and faculty recitals that will be held in the Elizabeth Pastor Recital Hall, and are free and open to the public.

The semester kicks off on Tuesday, Jan. 18, at 7:30 p.m. with an honors recital featuring performances from the department's student musicians who accomplished exceptional work in the fall semester.

Ashland University Coburn Gallery to Host Faculty Works at Art Exhibition

1/3/11 ASHLAND, OH -- The Coburn Gallery at Ashland University is hosting an art exhibition featuring the works from the Ashland University Art Department Faculty. The exhibition opens on Thursday, Jan. 13, and runs through Feb. 4.

The exhibition features work from a number of art faculty, including George Kocar, Priscilla Roggenkamp, Dan McDonald, Cynthia Petry, Charles Caldemeyer, Jessica Maloney, Keith McMahon, Larry Schiemann and Keith Dull.

Ashland Area Chorus Announces Spring Season with Rehearsals Beginning Jan. 10

12/16/10 ASHLAND, OH -- The Ashland Area Chorus (AAC), a non-auditioned mixed choir of about 70 singers based at Ashland University, has listed its schedule for spring season.

The rehearsal schedule begins Jan. 10 and continues every Monday night (with the exception of Martin Luther King Day on Jan. 17) from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Ashland University in the Center for the Arts (formerly the Arts and Humanities building), room 242.

Ashland University Students Create University's 2010 Electronic Christmas Card

12/14/10 ASHLAND, OH -- Two Wooster residents who are students at Ashland University spearheaded the creation of Ashland University's electronic Christmas card for 2010.

"Millions of people across the globe have captured the Christmas spirit thanks to the electronic Christmas cards that have been distributed by Ashland University since 2001," said Steve Hannan, director of public relations at Ashland University. "The 2010 card, which was posted the first week of December, is just the latest in this series of cards."

Former Municipal Court Judge to Speak at Ashland University's Winter Commencement

12/7/10 ASHLAND, OH -- The Honorable Jeff Payton, retired Mansfield Municipal Court Judge, will present the address at Ashland University's winter commencement ceremony. The event will be held Dec. 11 at 10 a.m. in Kates Gymnasium in the Physical Education Center. Payton's address is titled, "I Accept."

Payton was raised in Mansfield, Ohio, and educated in Mansfield Public Schools, graduating from Malabar High School. He received his bachelor of science degree in biology from Ashland University in 1969 and a law degree from the Cleveland Marshall College of Law in 1975.

Ashland Theological Seminary Schedules Community Christmas Chapel

12/2/10 ASHLAND, OH -- Ashland Theological Seminary has scheduled a Community Christmas Chapel to be held on Monday, Dec. 6, at 7 p.m. in Ronk Memorial Chapel on the Ashland Seminary campus at 910 Center St.

"We would like to invite our friends and neighbors to join us for our annual Community Christmas Chapel Service as we usher in the holiday season with a special evening celebrating the birth of our King," said William Gravitt, director of development for Ashland Theological Seminary. "

Community Organizations Asked to Help Fight Hunger with Art

11/30/10 ASHLAND, OH -- Ashland University's Coburn Art Gallery, the Art Department and the Center for Community Service are still asking community organizations to join Ashland University student organizations in participating in a flag decorating contest to raise money for the Ashland County Food Bank.

"It is time to get creative and raise money for the Ashland County Food Bank by creating a work of art on an 18" x 24" canvas," said Cynthia C. Petry, director of the Coburn Art Gallery. "The theme for the flag creation is open, so people can use their imagination."
