Faculty and Guest Artist Concerts to Fill University Recital Hall on Feb. 5

1/26/11 ASHLAND, OH -- Ashland University's Elizabeth Pastor Recital Hall will host two music concerts on Saturday, Feb. 5, both of which are free and open to the public. Performances will begin at 3 p.m. with a faculty recital featuring oboist Courtney Miller and bassoonist Ian Hoy. Later at 7:30 p.m., a guest artist recital will feature guitarist Mir Ali.

Ashland University Theatre Professor Has Role in Feature Film

1/25/11 ASHLAND, OH -- Fabio Polanco, assistant professor of theatre at Ashland University, is appearing in theaters nationwide in the feature film, "The Next Three Days," written and directed by Academy Award winner Paul Haggis and starring Academy Award winner Russell Crowe as well as Elizabeth Banks, Liam Neeson, Olivia Wilde and Brian Dennehy.

The movie, which is a remake of the 2008 French film "Pour Elle," is currently showing in Mansfield at the Cinemark Cinema 10 - Springfield Square.

From Bach to Ellington Featured in Faculty Chamber Recital

1/25/11 ASHLAND, OH -- The Department of Music at Ashland University presents a faculty chamber recital Sunday, Jan. 30, at 7:30 p.m. in the Elizabeth Pastor Recital Hall featuring Stephanie Sikora, soprano and associate professor of voice.

Pavlina Draganova will accompany the recital on piano while several fellow musicians assist including Jane Berkner, flute; Stephen Aron, guitar; Scott Garlock, trombone; and Christopher Simmons, piano. The performance is free and open to the public.

Ashland University to Hold Christian Concert

1/24/11 ASHLAND, OH -- The Ashland University Center of Religious Life will be sponsoring a February concert that will feature Christian rock band BarlowGirl and opening group Me In Motion. The concert will be held on Feb. 4 at 8 p.m. in Hugo Young Theatre.

With 10 Dove Award nominations, the longest No. 1 single in Christian Radio Weekly Chart history and a recently released album, Barlow Girl will be headlining the University's annual Christian concert featuring many of their beautiful and powerful ballads from their six released albums to date.

Ashland Center for Nonviolence Presents "Creating a Caring Community" Symposium

1/21/11 ASHLAND, OH -- The Ashland Center for Nonviolence at Ashland University will present "Creating a Caring Community," a symposium of four programs to be held Feb. 2, Feb. 9, Feb. 22 and March 2, respectively.

"Community" is a word that is tossed about casually. Sometimes it refers to the people who happen to live around other people, the people on the block or in this town or county. Other times it refers to the group of people who share deep feelings with each other, perhaps a church group, fishing buddies, sorority sisters, or work group.

Ashland University to Host Ashbrook Colloquium on Thucydides

Speaker John Boehner to Speak at Ashbrook Center's Memorial Dinner at Ashland University

1/19/11 ASHLAND, OH -- The Honorable John A. Boehner, speaker of the United States House of Representatives, will speak at Ashland University on April 8, 2011, as the keynote speaker for the 26th annual John M. Ashbrook Memorial Dinner.

Sponsored by the John M. Ashbrook Center for Public Affairs, the event has hosted many national leaders including Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush, Colin Powell and Margaret Thatcher.
