Winter Festival Concert Featuring Four Ashland University Instrumental Ensembles

11/17/10 ASHLAND, OH -- From the percussion and wind ensembles to the University Jazz Orchestra and brass ensemble, Ashland University's first of two Winter Festival concerts will offer a full slate a musical treats. Free and open to the public, the concert is scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 22, at 7:30 p.m. at the University's Hugo Young Theatre.

Ashland University Sets Winter Sports and Activities Camp

11/11/10 ASHLAND, OH -- The Ashland University Recreational Services Department has planned a Winter Sports and Activities Camp for children who are ages 5 to 12.

The camp will include two sessions: Session 1 will be Dec. 4-6 from 4 to 6:30 p.m., while Session 2 will be Dec. 7 from 4 to 9 p.m. Drop-off for the camps will be at 3:45 p.m. and pick up will be 6:30 p.m. for session one and 9 p.m. for session 2.

There is an option to attend both sessions if campers would like. The cost for session 1 is $45, for session 2 is $25 and for both sessions it is $60.

Center to Show Video on Christmas Truce of World War I

11/9/10 ASHLAND, OH -- The Ashland Center for Nonviolence (ACN) will be showing a video on the Christmas Truce of World War I on Tuesday, Nov. 16, at 7:30 p.m. in the Hawkins-Conard Student Center auditorium on the Ashland University campus.

Following the video, Dr. Dan Lawson, dean of Religious Life, and Dr. Duncan Jamieson, professor of history, will lead a discussion of one of the most amazing moments in World War I. This event is free and open to the public.

Program on Understanding Mediation Set for Nov. 13

11/5/10 ASHLAND, OH -- Shelly Whalen, executive director of Community Mediation Services of Central Ohio, will be presenting the program "Understanding Mediation and How It Works" on Saturday, Nov. 13, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Kroc Center (Salvation Army), 527 E. Liberty, Ashland.

Whalen will explain mediation and demonstrate how mediation works. The program is free and open to anyone interested in learning about mediation.

Community Asked to Help Fight Hunger with Art

11/4/10 ASHLAND, OH -- Ashland University's Coburn Art Gallery, the Art Department and the Center for Community Service are asking community organizations to join Ashland University student organizations in participating in a flag decorating contest to raise money for the Ashland County Food Bank.

"It is time to get creative and raise money for the Ashland County Food Bank by creating a work of art on an 18" x 24" canvas," said Cynthia C. Petry, director of the Coburn Art Gallery. "The theme for the flag creation is open, so people can use their imagination."
