ASHLAND, Ohio – Ashland University’s Faith and Society lecture series will conclude its 2023-24 academic year programming with a visit from Legin, an ordained Christian minister, hip hop artist, speaker and podcaster. Two events, both to be held at the John C. Myers Convocation Center, are planned during his visit – a concert, titled “God is Iconic,” on Tuesday, April 2, at 9 p.m., and a lecture, titled “Christian Intersectionality in the Music and Entertainment Space,” on Wednesday, April 3, at 7 p.m.

The events are free and open to the public, and will also be available online at this link.

As a spoken-word artist, Legin produces captivating, faith-based events that inform and influence, but in his words, are “not overbearing.” He looks to connect with his audiences, which include public schools, colleges, prisons, trade schools and other organizations, by being transparent and by using a unique art form to communicate.

In his music, Legin advocates for a range of social causes, such as racial reconciliation and the importance of mental health, all through the lens and voice of Christ in hip hop.

“I look forward to sharing a lecture on how to navigate these spaces effectively and authentically as a Christian, as well as having a concert based around my latest project, ‘God is Iconic,’” said Legin of his upcoming visit to AU.

Legin is also the co-founder and a board member of the Safe House Project, a nonprofit that is working to eradicate child trafficking through the power of unity, compassion and collective action.

The ongoing Faith and Society lecture series is designed to give Ashland students and the Ashland community the opportunity to hear experts discuss critical topics of faith and its implications in contemporary society. It is sponsored by the Hilda E. Bretzlaff Foundation. For more information, contact Dennis Monokroussos at dmonokro@ashland.edu.
