Dr. Jeffrey Weidenhamer, professor of chemistry, was quoted in a Popular Science article dealing with black plastic e-waste. The article was titled "You could be eating a side of e-waste with your take out." Weidenhamer has done much research involving the contamination of consumer products with heavy metals such as lead and cadmium.
Science magazine ran an article about a new initiative -- dubbed “Psychological Science Accelerator” -- that is led by AU's psychologist Christopher Chartier. Dr. Chartier, who is an associate professor of psychology at AU, has established an International Collaboration Research Center that has so far forged alliances with more than 170 laboratories on six continents in a bid to enhance the ability of researchers to collect data at multiple sites on a massive scale.
Crain’s Cleveland Business interviewed Jason Ellis and Carla Abreu-Ellis, associate professors of education, and a couple of AU students for an article on how teacher education students worked with local manufacturer Rain Drop Products LLC to give the water park product maker suggestions on how to make the company’s products more inclusive. The students also trained the Rain Drop sales team on the best language to use.
The October issue of Campus Safety magazine featured an article on AU education associate professor Amy Klinger's research on School Bomb Threats. The article was titled "Study Reveals Sharp Increase in School Bomb Threats." A school safety expert, Klinger earlier this year released research that shows a dramatic increase in school-based bomb threat incidents both over the last few years and specifically during the 2015-16 academic year.
Crain's Cleveland Business featured an article on Ashland University and its enrollment growth this year. The article, titled "Second Chance is Beneficial for Ashland," discussed the increase in Ashland's enrollment numbers for this year and highlighted the Second Chance Pell Pilot program that has increased the numbers in AU's prison outreach program.
