19th century Russian novels

Dr. Russell Weaver

Dr. Russell Weaver, Professor of English, joined the faculty in 1986. He teaches courses in Romantic and Victorian British literature; Greek literature; 19th century Russian Novel (War and Peace and The Brothers Karamazov); tragedy; and he offers a rotating set of major writers seminars on Dostoevsky, Shakespeare, Melville/Conrad, and Austen. Dr. Weaver published “Questioning Keats: An Introduction to Applied Hermeneutics” with Peter Lang Press in 2006. He is currently working on two books. One is provisionally entitled “The Moral World of Billy Budd.” The other is to be entitled “Teaching English at Ridgeview Classical,” an account of how the fifteenth-ranked high school in the country, located in Fort Collins, Colo., is succeeding in part through following the approach to teaching English he developed. Prof. Weaver has also directed the Ashland University Philosophy Reading Group for over twenty years. He received his Ph.D. and M.A. from the University of Chicago and B.A. from Tulane University.
