Dr. JoAnn Ford Watson

Dr. JoAnn Ford Watson is a professor of Christian Theology and Spiritual Formation at the Ashland University Theological Seminary.

Dr. Watson was drawn to Ashland Theological Seminary because of her great interest in training students for ministry. In the classroom, she is a constant source of encouragement, giving students the boost they need to really succeed.

Dr. Watson's true gifting is compassion. Though ATS students are the current recipients of that gift, Dr. Watson has been on an incredible journey of compassion for many years. She even worked with Mother Teresa and the Missionaries of Charity in Calcutta, India. At the Charity, Dr. Watson saw Mother Teresa and the other nuns model the simple love of Jesus with an incredible generosity of spirit.

Dr. Watson enjoys traveling, her favorite destinations being Europe and Asia. She is also very fond of music. Dr. Watson and her husband, Duane, have one daughter, Christina.

Dr. Brenda B. Colijn

Dr. Brenda B. Colijn is a professor of Biblical Interpretation and Theology at the Ashland University Theological Seminary.

From the time she first stepped on campus as a student, Dr. Colijn has felt that being at Ashland Theological Seminary is like "coming home." The atmosphere of ATS has allowed her to integrate her professional life and faith, deepening her own walk with God as she guides others down that same road. In fact, one of the most valuable events in Dr. Colijn's walk with Christ has been the shift from a formulaic evangelical devotional life to a transformative friendship and companionship with Jesus, and this is one thing she hopes to foster in students' lives.

Dr. Colijn is a gifted teacher and a wise leader, and this is evident in her classroom, at church, and in relationships. She has been greatly influenced by the works of Henri Nouwen, C. S. Lewis, and Richard Foster, as well as a personal friendship with Dr. Jerry Flora, who is a professor emeritus at Ashland Theological Seminary. Dr. Colijn has a long list of her own work published in journals, magazines, and books. In particular, her book Images of Salvation in the Testament is a favorite.

Dr. Colijn met her husband, Hendrick, in a prayer group at Cornell University. They now have two grown children and enjoy traveling, especially to Bermuda, England, and Spain. Dr. Colijn's other hobbies include watching soccer, riding her recumbent bike and walking, tackling the occasional crossword puzzle, and listening to classical, Celtic, and contemporary music. She also finds herself drawn to science fiction in all its forms.
