6/1/10 ASHLAND, OH -- The Ashland Area Chorus, a non-auditioned mixed choir of about 75 singers, announces its summer schedule. The chorus will be performing with the Ashland Symphony Orchestra for the Pops in the Park concert on Sunday, July 4, at 8 p.m. at the Myers band shell in Brookside Park.
The Ashland Area Chorus rehearsals are Monday nights from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on June 7, 14, 21, and 28 in the Ashland University in the Center for the Arts (formerly the Arts and Humanities building), room 242. Dress rehearsal is 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 4, at Brookside Park, with the performance on the same evening.
The Chorus is open to the entire Ashland community and beyond. Previous choral experience is helpful, but not required. While there are no strict age limits, singers under 18 must be approved by the director. There is no cost to the singer.
The AAC has performed in regular AU concerts, with the Ashland Symphony Orchestra, and for the Ohio Choral Directors Association. Recent appearances have included the Verdi Requiem, Mendelssohn's Elijah, and a special performance of Handel's "Messiah."
Current members should encourage their talented friends and neighbors to attend the first rehearsal and make a vocal contribution to this fine musical organization. For further information, please contact the AU Director of Choral Activities Dr. Ron Blackley at (419) 289-5114.
