7/11/19 ASHLAND, Ohio – Ashland University and Safe Haven of Ashland, Ohio, are using a $10,000 Strengthening Partnerships Grant from the Ohio Department of Higher Education to bring awareness, education and proven forms of sexual assault prevention to the AU community.
“This grant has solidified the relationship between these two groups and funds from the grant are allowing Safe Haven support service programs to be offered on the AU campus,” said Dr. Rob Pool, vice president of Student Affairs at Ashland University. “We believe this will bring better understanding across agencies to better serve people who have been victims of sexual violence.”
In addition, Ashland University has joined the county-wide Sexual Assault Response Team (SART). The team was coordinated by Safe Haven, and it has brought together multiple agencies from around the county to discuss AU’s responses to reports of sexual assault.
“The SART team is a continued initiative of the University's Strengthening Community Partnerships Grant that was received last year,” Pool said.
Hannah Shaw has been hired as the AU campus advocate from Safe Haven for this upcoming year, and she is keeping regular office hours and conducting a weekly support group meeting. Her office is located in bottom level of the campus library in Rinehart 17 and her office hours are Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 1:30 to 4:30 pm and Thursdays from 5 to 8 pm.
Those who would like to talk to an advocate can contact Safe Haven through their crisis hotline at 419.289.8085.
