4/7/14 ASHLAND, Ohio – Two Ashland University students have been recognized for their outstanding work and were named the recipients of the Certified Management Accountant (CMA) scholarships by the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA) at Ashland University’s Student IMA meeting on March 26.

Those receiving the CMA scholarships were John Cline of Ravenna and Joyce Badertscher of Apple Creek.

Cline is a supervisor who manages the Youngstown Regional Income Tax Agency with a staff of seven auditors and paralegals and is pursuing his MBA. Badertscher is in the Accelerated BS/MBA program with an accounting specialization and is an accounting tutor for the University. She will be completing an accounting internship this summer with The J.M. Smucker Company.

As recipients of the CMA Scholarships, these students will receive a comprehensive package of benefits enabling them to study for and take the CMA exam at no cost. The benefits also include a free IMA membership for three years.

“The Certified Management Accountant is the gold standard of certification in management accounting,” said Dr. Kris Parsons, associate professor of accounting and chair of the department of accounting and information systems at Ashland University. “It is unique among professional and academic credentials, designed specifically for accounting and financial management professionals in business.”

Parsons said achieving the CMA demonstrates professional expertise in financial planning, analysis, control, decision support and professional ethics. “These are essential skills sought after by successful organizations and their financial team leaders,” she said.

The IMA is committed to supporting the education of future accounting and finance professionals working in business and, as part of this effort, the IMA has instituted the CMA Scholarship program that honors top students by recognizing them with this scholarship.

Ashland University’s IMA student chapter is sponsored by the IMA Chapter in Canton. For information on graduate courses that cover the learning outcomes of the CMA exam, contact the MBA office at Ashland University at 1-888-MBA-CLAS.
